Founded in 2002 by Maria Claudia Clemente, Francesco Isidori and Marco Sardella. While Labics has been run by Clemente and Isidori since 2005, the three founding members work collaboratively in the architecture department of Rome’s “La Sapienza” University in both research and teaching. Labics is responsible for the design of the Obika restaurants in Italy, London, New York and Kuwait, the Citta del Sole development in Rome and the Lausanne Museum of Fine Arts in Switzerland. During this year’s interview, Maria Claudia Clemente discussed and showed the design process for the newly finished Fontana square in Quinto de Stampi, Milan; designed over an incredibly intricate grid system, every shape, line and material fits into a impeccably planned whole. This project is a stunning example of how Labics works within a space to create an experience that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also painstakingly composed with the user in mind.
