ItaliaDesign spends seven weeks in Italy each spring/summer and the learning is primarily experiential. We believe that the student cannot understand contemporary design in Italy without understanding how the culture works and has been working as its own “legacy project” for millennia. For example, it is possible through understanding how food and wine is produced in Italy to see how the same issues of quality, craft, and knowledge transfer translate into design and its outcomes. This category is made up of four sources: High definition video, photography, cultural tours and food + wine topics. The annual “slideshow” has now become primarily a video capturing of the daily work + experiences of the field school. It is chunked into 4, by the 4 locations the school resides at as bases during the school, and is then chaptered as a playlist to allow fast browsing of content and experiences. “What do you do on the Field School?” is answered in this section.
