These Martyriums marked the graves and martyrdom of possibly the two most important followers of Christ in the new Christian Era of Rome; St Peter and St Paul. They are also two of the seven churches around the Aurelian walls where the peoples of Rome built new establishments. St. Peter’s Basilica began a new evolution of the old Basilica structure to suit the needs of the church and eventually evolved into one of the most recognizable buildings in the world.
